Diploma In Early Childhood Care & Education – Teaching (DECCE-T)
The DECCE-T is designed to prepare aspiring teachers and teachers of young children for the early childhood field. It aims to provide the basis for effective teaching of and interaction with young children through a thorough examination of both the theoretical and practical knowledge of child development at a higher level.
Aims and objectives of course: The objectives of the course are to: - Enable participants to transfer educational and child development theories into practices, which provide wide-ranging, multimedia and developmentally appropriate experiences to young children;
- Enable participants to be skilful in their role of observation, and apply their knowledge of child development to design learning environments that meet the needs of individual children;
- Present to participants a variety of pre-school approaches which facilitate a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum;
- Enable participants to develop interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with fellow colleagues, parents and other professionals in the community;
- Help participants design, implement and evaluate learning environments and activities, based on the Pre-school education curriculum framework/goals and desired outcomes set out by the MCYS and MOE.

Admission Requirements
Existing Teachers (registered by 31 Dec 2008) - 5 GCE ‘O’ level credit including EL1 or
- 3 GCE 'O' level credits with EL1 & Certificate in Preschool Education - Teaching (CPT)
New Teachers (registered on or after 1 Jan 2009) - 5 GCE ‘O’ level credit including EL1*
*Those with a C5 or C6 in EL1 are given 2 years from the point of teacher registration to obtain a B4 grade or IELTS 6.5 *HEALTH CLEARANCE Requirement: Please refer to the following link under childcare link for health clearance requirement: http://www.childcarelink.gov.sg/ccls/uploads/CCC_Guide.pdf (Refer to page 12 of document)
Award of Certificate
Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 75% attendance, participants will be awarded the Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Teaching, accreditated by MCYS & MOE.
